Key takeaways
- PhotosynthAI costs $29–$199 per month for 50–600 AI product photos, with a 7-day free trial on the Starter plan.
- Fully used, the per-photo price ranges from $0.58 on Starter to $0.33 on Scale.
- Extra photos are billed per image ($0.50–$0.75 by plan) only up to a cap you approve up front — generation stops at the cap, so there are no surprise bills.
- All billing is handled by Shopify on your existing account; cancel anytime from the app.
How billing actually works
You subscribe to a plan inside the app and Shopify handles the charge on your existing billing — we never see or store payment details. Each billing period is 30 days. Your plan includes a set number of AI photos; every generation you run counts as one photo, and the usage dashboard in the app logs each one so you always know where you stand.
What happens when you run out
If you use all your included photos, extra photos are billed per image at your plan's overage rate — $0.75 on Starter, $0.60 on Studio, $0.50 on Scale. Overage has a hard cap you approve up front when you subscribe: $100 per period on Starter and Studio, $250 on Scale. When the cap is reached, generation stops until your next period. There is no way to be surprise-billed past the cap.
| Plan | Monthly price | Included photos | Extra photos | Overage cap | Max photos / period |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | 50 | $0.75 each | $100 | 183 |
| Studio | $79 | 200 | $0.60 each | $100 | 366 |
| Scale | $199 | 600 | $0.50 each | $250 | 1,100 |
What counts as a photo
Each completed generation is one photo — including tweaks, since a tweak is a fresh generation from the previous result. Selecting a batch of 10 photos and generating them uses 10. Reference photos you attach do not count; only generated results do.
Choosing a plan
- Starter if you are refreshing a small catalog or trying the workflow on your worst listings first. 50 photos covers roughly 15–25 products at 2–3 shots each.
- Studio if you add products regularly or are working through a mid-size catalog page by page. This is the plan most stores land on.
- Scale if you are converting a large catalog or shoot in volume every month — it has the lowest per-photo price at $0.33 fully used, and the largest overage headroom.

Common questions
Do unused photos roll over?
No. Each 30-day billing period starts with your plan's full included amount — 50, 200 or 600 photos — and unused photos do not carry into the next period.
Does a tweak count as a photo?
Yes. A tweak is a fresh generation built from the previous result, so each completed tweak counts as one photo, the same as a first-pass generation. Reference photos you attach never count — only generated results do.
Can I switch plans mid-period?
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade from the app at any time, and Shopify prorates the subscription charge. Your billing period timing stays anchored to your original start, so switching never resets or shortens a period.
Is there a free plan?
No free tier, but the Starter plan starts with a 7-day free trial that includes its 50 photos (once per shop) — try the workflow on your own products, then switch tiers anytime.
What happens if I cancel?
You can cancel from the app at any time and Shopify stops the subscription — no emails, no retention flow. Photos already generated and published to your products stay on your products.
